Emory's on Silver Lake Destroyed by Fire

Just after 4:00am on the morning of Monday, November 9, 2009, a 911 call was placed reporting that Emory's on Silver Lake was engulfed in flames. Firefighters and police rushed to the scene, but were unable to save the popular restaurant.

The investigation is still underway, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Emory Cole, the owner of Emory's on Silver Lake, is worried this may be the result of arson after the news of other cases in the Greenwood area.

The Everett Herald posted an estimated $2 million in damages.

Investigators have not released many details, but Cole believes the fire started on the waterfront deck or inside the lounge. Photos taken during the fire from across the lake show the fire overtaking the lounge, then quickly moving toward the dining room and kitchen.

Emory's on Silver Lake is the product of more than 20 years for Cole, and he hopes to have the opportunity to rebuild.

Emory has been contacting local restaurant owners in hopes they can assist the 50+ employees that are now without jobs. Employee assistance funds have also been set up at both Cascade Bank and Citybank.

The community involvement and support during this time has been truly unbelievable. The Emory's on Silver Lake family greatly appreciates everything that is being done for them! Updates will be posted to this blog as they are received and confirmed.

Emory's can only go up from here, and we can't wait to bring everyone back into our home and family.

Thank you everyone!!!

  2. We were shocked and saddened by the news. Emory's has become a favorite for Sunday Brunch, and we have taken all of our out of town visitors. Our thoughts are with you, the owners and wonderful employees, who have given us such great service. Thanks to all of you for some wonderful memories - I know you will all land on your feet, you are quality employees. I hope that Emory's will be rebuilt. It is really great to have such a nice, non-chain, restaurant so close. You are missed already!

  3. Molly, this is Sally's friend, Julie. I'm so sorry to hear about this tragic loss not only for your family but for the community. While the loss feels overwhelming, the location remains if you choose to rebuild. From what I've read, the magic seems to have been in its people...which also remain. I pray for your strength and comfort although you McDevitt's seem to be a bit stubborn and may not need much extra of either of those things. I look forward to celebrating the Phoenix that rises from this awful event.

  4. I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of a spectacular restaurant that I have recommended to many. I lived next to Emory's for three years and visited the restaurant several times, while in Silver Lake 2000-2002. I am hopeful that a cause for this fire will be found and hopefully the restaurant will be rebuilt. I think that it is wonderful that so many people are already stepping into help out.

  5. A friend of mine and I just moved to Charter Club apts. in Aug.'09. We are glad we had the opportunity to experience your Sunday Brunch and even what my neighbors refer to as "the free concerts" on weekends (I live on waterfront just south of Emory's), but we are truly saddened that anyone would want to destroy something that so many people apparently love and enjoy? I just don't get it...
Our prayers go out to the family and staff of Emery's, and we hope that you will again give this lake and it's residents something to smile about, with your return.
Sincerely, Angel of The Boeing, Co.
